Miami - Sunny Day Flooding

November 29, 2019 by Benjamin Rosamond

We are delighted to release our first original time lapse video footage!

Our mission is to accelerate action on climate change by collecting visual evidence of climate change related symptoms. Climate change is a problem of enormous scale. As such, it is also one that is difficult to see and comprehend. Our goal is to leverage photography and time lapse video to raise the visual profile of the issue and to accelerate mitigative action.

Certain low-lying areas in the U.S. are now below sea level at high tide due to rising seas, driven by global warming. Tidal flooding or 'sunny day flooding' is the temporary inundation of those areas in the absence of rainfall.

Sea level rise is impacting the U.S. today and sunny day flooding will increase in frequency and magnitude and Earth continues to warm. When we have areas that flood on sunny days, very little margin remains during even a minor storm event. As flooding becomes more severe, issues such as damage to buildings and infrastructure, contamination of the water supply and the spread of water borne disease will arise more frequently. Sea level rise is a problem in the present, not just the distant future.
